Two-goal Glanworth simply have too much for Glenville

- PAT RYAN Killavullen

A PHYSICALLY stronger and more experienced Glanworth side emerged deserving winners over Glenville in the County IFC at Killavullen on Saturday evening.

This was a tough contest all through. James McCarthy opened the scoring for Glenville from a free in the third minute. Glanworth had a goal by Shane O’Riordan after being put through by Emmet Sheehan after five minutes.

Scores were very scarce for the rest of the half. Both defences did well, Shane O’Riordan followed with a Glanworth point. Glenville missed a lot of scoring chances from play and frees.

In the 17th minute good play by Brian Gallagher to Philip Blackburne led to Gallagher taking the return pass and pointing. Both sides had a number of wides. In the 24th minute Dylan O’Donovan pointed a free for the Imokilly side. At the break Glanworth held a 1-2 to 0-2 lead.

Glenville started well on the resumption but they found scores hard to secure. In the 36th minute good play by Eddie Delahunt led to a well taken Dylan O’Donovan point.

Glanworth did well in the half-back line. Good play by Shane O’Riordan led to a Pierre O’Driscoll point. Glenville were again off target. In the 41st minute Glanworth moved 1-4 to 0-3 clear when Ross Murphy kicked over.

Emmet Sheehan with a point opened up a five point lead 1-5 to 0-3. Glenville had their only other score a point in the 49th minute by Dylan O’Donovan (free). Shane O’Riordan followed with a pointed free.

In the 54th minute Glanworth sealed their place in the next round when Eric O’Donoghue worked well for Jesse Walsh who goaled.

Glenville lay siege on the Glanworth goal in the last remaining minutes.

They went in search of a goal or two. Glanworth defence held firm. Deep in injury time a close in free by Aaron Ricken was well saved followed by the final whistle. Glanworth now face Cill na Marthra.
