Big win for Kildorrery in County IHL

KILDORRERY completed their Division 3 County IHL programme with a comprehens­ive win over Castlemart­yr at Kildorrery.

Kildorrery got on top early in vital sectors throughout the field and they built up a big lead. Finbarr Stapleton opened their account and Peter O’Brien (free) gave them the lead after 5 minutes. James Keating followed with three points one from a sideline as the ‘Hill’ moved 0-7 to 0-1 clear after 15 minutes.

Good play by Michael Walsh led to a Peter O’Brien point. Stephen Coughlan cut in from the corner and goaled 1-9 to 0-1. The East Cork side had their second point in the 22nd minute when Michael Kelly and Sean Hennessy combined for Eddie Clifford who pointed. A foul on Sean Hennessy led to a penalty that Barry Lawton converted 1-9 to 1-2. Three late points by Peter O’Brien and James Keating (2) had the winners well in control at the break 1-12 to 1-2.

On the resumption Kildorrery continued to do very well. Peter O’Brien had an early point with Ollie Smiddy working well for Joe Stack who pointed. In the 37th minute good play for Kildorrery by Peter O’Brien and Dylan Kent led to a well taken goal by James Keating. Finbarr Stapleton followed with a goal as the lead was 3-14 to 1-4.

Both sides made a number of substituti­ons with Castlemart­yr having 3 more points while Kildorrery added a further 5 points that saw them run out easy winners. Kildorrery with their full compliment of games played are now in second position. Some other clubs have outstandin­g games and can overtake.
