County is gearing up for Culture Night 2018

- BILL BROWNE

CULTURE vultures will be in ‘seventh heaven’ on Friday, September 21, with an extensive programme of events planned for across Cork to celebrate Ireland’s rich and vibrant cultural heritage.

The public has been issued with an open invitation to enjoy Culture Night – a wonderful and magical celebration highlighting the astounding wealth of cultural heritage that abounds on our doorstep.

Now in its eighth year the nationwide initiative has become instrumental in inspiring individual communities to shine the spotlight on the wide, varied and fascinating cultural heritage that has made Ireland the envy of other countries across the globe.

From 5pm to 11pm (and sometimes even later) people will be able to immerse themselves in a programme of events and be part of a very special evening of entertainment, discovery and adventure in the company of historians, musicians and artists.

Museums, galleries, churches, historic houses, artists’ studios and cultural centres will remain open until late in the evening, with people encouraged to wander in and out to sample their sights and sounds.

A full programme of events has been planned for the Rebel county and city, offering people of all ages a superb opportunity to immerse themselves in our history and rekindle their love of all things Cork.

With hundreds of events taking place in dozens of venues across Cork, there will be plenty going on for all ages and interests – none of which will cost a single red cent.

From Blarney to Baltimore, from Kanturk to Kinsale, from Mallow to the City and County Halls, the county will come alive, honouring the vision and enthusiasm of individuals and voluntary groups whose efforts have ensured Cork remains, without doubt, a thriving cultural hub.

With so many events taking place across a single night, those planning to take advantage of Culture Night will have to draw up a schedule with military-like precision in order to experience as many events as possible.

In order to help with that, a dedicated website at www.culturenight. ie has been set up detailing all of the events taking place across the city and county, with the full programme set to be uploaded to he site over the coming weeks.
