THE convention of delegates to select candidates to run in the local elections on the Fianna Fail ticket next May took place at the James O’Keeffe Institute in Newmarket last Friday night.
Charleville based Councillor Ian Doyle was selected along with Bernard Moynihan to contest the election for the Kanturk electoral area.
Accepting the nomination, Councillor Ian Doyle acknowledged the presence of Aindrias Moynihan T.D., and Michael Moynihan T.D., and fellow councillors. He thanked them for the nomination to contest the 2019 Local Elections on behalf of Fianna Fail.
Councillor Doyle stated: “It has been an honour and privilege to represent Charleville, Newtown and Ballyhea on the Fermoy Municipal District of Cork County Council for the past five years. ‘ Local Matters’ was the campaign slogan for that election, and it has proved vital in terms of funding and services.”
He sighted incidents of community funding, amenity grants for clubs and organisations, town development funds and village renewal for the local area.
He praised the work of many voluntary organisations in North Cork and pledged to continue to represent them on Cork County Council in the future, if elected.
The 2019 local elections sees the return of the Charleville, Newtown and Ballyhea districts being placed in the Kanturk Municipal District area.
“It also sees a new configuration in the Cork City/Council administration and it is vital that, we here in our area, have a local representative to fight for funding for the development and the good of the communities in our region, “he said.
Cllr. Doyle acknowledged the work of Michael Moynihan TD, with whom he had worked daily with for the last five years, and stated that it is essential that Cork North West retains its two Fianna Fail TDs in the next general election.
