Rocks on road a danger near Munster joinery

- MARIA HERLIHY

COUNCIL officials need to investigate the possibilty of removing rock that is coming out onto the road near Munster Joinery in Ballydesmond as numerous accidents have occurred over the last number of years.

That was the motion put forward by Cllr John Paul O’Shea (Ind) as he said that, as it currently stands, two trucks can not pass besides each other on that road.

At the Kanturk Mallow municipal district meeting, he said he has already spoken to some local engineers and it is hoped that work can be done for the passage of the trucks.

Cllr Timmy Collins (Ind) asked if it was the landowner’s duty to take care of this task.

Jim Moloney of Cork County Council said this would need to be investigated to see what measures could possibly be taken.

“This may involve a landowner but it is too early to say for the moment, but we will investigate it,” he said.

Cllr O’Shea said there are numerous heavy goods vehicles on that stretch of road – the R582.

“A plan needs to be put in place to alleviate this problem,” he said.
