Fermoy 5-16 Harbour Rovers 1-4

AS the scoreline suggests Fermoy ran out easy winners over Harbour Rovers in the Shreelawn Oil JCHC semi final at Kilworth on Sunday.

From the offset Fermoy with a good blend of youth and experience set the tone. They were 0-4 to no score to the good before they struck for the games opening goal in the 11th minute when a free by Mattie Condon dropped short with Gary O’Callaghan on hand to finish to the net from close range.

Harbour Rovers registered their opening score when William Jackson pointed a free in the 14th minute. However, the better balanced Fermoy outfit continued to set the running and they added points by Mattie Condon (2) Craig Murphy and Daniel O’Flynn to move 1-10 to 0-1 in front by the 26th minute.

Harbour Rovers battled away against the odds and at the end of normal time William Jackson drilled a free to the Fermoy net. Fermoy’s response was instant. In injury time another free by Mattie Condon was gathered by Cian O’Carroll on the edge of the square and he in turn set up Gary O’Callaghan for his second goal as the winners went held a 2-11 to 1-1 interval lead.

On the changeover Fermoy’s third string continued to dominate. They added a further 3-6 in this half to just three more points for the Rovers - their goals coming by Jack Gallagher, Jack O’Callaghan and Mattie Condon in the 42nd, 50th and 58th minutes respectively that sealed the issue long before the final whistle and set up a final meeting with defending champions Liscarroll-Churchtown Gaels.
