Gritty Kanturk under 13’s dig out great draw in torrential rain at Gurteenard

-

THE Kanturk AFC Under 13’s welcomed Mallow United A to Gurteenard on Sunday 11th November for their first league meeting with their near neighbours.

Mallow started stronger and picked up their first goal after 6 mins and through continued attacking pressure got their second goal after 11 mins.

Kanturk, trailing by 2, tightened up their defence and created some good chances which paid off when Eoin O’Riordan finished off a great phase of play to make it 2-1 just before the half time whistle.

The second half saw difficult weather conditions for both sides and with some great team play Kanturk created a chance for Eoin O’Riordan to take his second goal on 45 mins to even up the scoreboard.

Both sides each had their own opportunities as the game went on but it was Mallow who found the back of the net on 56 mins in what looked like it could be the game decider. With the scoreboard against them and torrential rain in their faces, Kanturk dug deep and were awarded a free kick which Brian Murphy delivered accurately into the Mallow box for Pablo Hernandez to find the equalizer before the referee blew the final whistle.

A great game in what was, at times, horrible conditions finished up a draw, a fair result for both sides. Final score Kanturk AFC 3, Mallow Utd A 3.

Man of the Match Colin O’Leary, Best for Kanturk, Eoin O’Riordan, Sean O’Connor and Brian Murphy.
