- MARIA HERLIHY

A vote of sympathy was held for the late Derry Coakley of Macroom at the recent Blarney Macrom municipal district meeting.

A post-mortem has indicated that Mr Coackley suffered from a single gunshot wound to the upper arm at Curraheen, Raleigh North between October 23 and October 24. Since Mr Coakley’s death, a pensioner has been charged with his murder.

At the Blarney Macrom meeting, chairman Cllr Ted Lucey (FG) put forward a vote of sympathy for Mr Coakley and his family. “Denis worked here for years as a ground workers. This is all very sad,” he said.

Cllr Gobnait Moynihan (FF) said at County Hall mass is offered for all staff members and especially staff who have passed away. While she said Mr Coakley was not “official council staff ” he did a lot of work for the council over the years and his name will now be included in the special mass and a candle will be lit for him.
