Grace bring vic­tory back to Kan­turk

GRACE O’BRIEN, a TY stu­dent at Scoil Mhuire, won th etop prize at the Speakeasy Toast­mas­ters Schools Pub­lic Speak­ing Com­pe­ti­tion last week.

With a pow­er­ful pre­sen­ta­tion on the dan­gers of sugar, ‘Al­co­hol to the child’, Grace won the hearts and minds of the ad­ju­di­ca­tors, ahead of Sharon Campbell of Na­gle Rice, Don­eraile, run­ner-up and Liam McSherry Scoil Phobail Sli­abh Luachra, Rath­more in third place. Grace, who hails from Ban­teer, be­comes the sec­ond stu­dent from Scoil Mhuire to win the Best Speaker prize in this pres­ti­gious com­pe­ti­tion fol­low­ing on from the success of Dar­ragh Healy-Fitzger­ald in 2017.

Kan­turk was also ably rep­re­sented by Roisin Hen­nessy, Scoil Mhuire and by the rep­re­sen­ta­tives of Co­laiste Treasa, Dara O’Shea and Cil­lian O’Sul­li­van.

Club Pres­i­dent Sean Cor­co­ran con­grat­u­lated all the con­tes­tants for the hugely im­pres­sive qual­ity of their speeches and pre­dicted a bright fu­ture for “th­ese young trail-blaz­ers”.
