Grace bring victory back to Kanturk
GRACE O’BRIEN, a TY student at Scoil Mhuire, won th etop prize at the Speakeasy Toastmasters Schools Public Speaking Competition last week.
With a powerful presentation on the dangers of sugar, ‘Alcohol to the child’, Grace won the hearts and minds of the adjudicators, ahead of Sharon Campbell of Nagle Rice, Doneraile, runner-up and Liam McSherry Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra, Rathmore in third place. Grace, who hails from Banteer, becomes the second student from Scoil Mhuire to win the Best Speaker prize in this prestigious competition following on from the success of Darragh Healy-Fitzgerald in 2017.
Kanturk was also ably represented by Roisin Hennessy, Scoil Mhuire and by the representatives of Colaiste Treasa, Dara O’Shea and Cillian O’Sullivan.
Club President Sean Corcoran congratulated all the contestants for the hugely impressive quality of their speeches and predicted a bright future for “these young trail-blazers”.
