Pathways students have uncovered a sweet new gift for you this Christmas

-

The Pathways Programme, which is funded by the HSE, has been running in Mallow since late 2000. It is designed and supported by a team of dedicated and experienced staff to support people to take stock of their lives, make choices and provide them with a range of personal, social and work related skills to progress to greater levels of independence and community integration.

This year Elaine Garde of Future Orchards Cork acted as a mentor for Tunnel Vision (which is an horticultural option for Pathways students). Students gathered apples in community locations which were sent for juicing and bottling.

The apple and apple and blackberry juice is now being sold as a fund raiser.

Elaine stated: ‘I’m delighted to expand our Forgotten Fruits project to Mallow and to work with the students on this valuable community action which brings great environmental awareness to communities – and I look forward to expanding this in the Mallow area in Aug 2019’.

Tunnel Vision is a partnership between Pathways National learning Network, COPE Mallow and Irish Wheelchair Association.

Juice will be on sale in the ‘Lions Den Club’ Market Square, Mallow and at Pathways National Learning Network, Market Square, Mallow (0876677002) for €5 a bottle.

“A perfect Christmas gift, these apples were gathered in the community by our students and donated to the project. Otherwise, they would have been wasted,” said Marian Ward of Pathways NLN Mallow. “This is our first year working on this project so we have a limited number of bottles for sale.

“We hope to invite other groups to work on gathering the apples with us in the community next August 2019.
