Early Christmas present for Mallow commuters

-

MALLOW commuters got an early Christmas present last weekend that could see them saving up to €500 a year.

Bus Éireann customers commuting from Mallow and Macroom can now benefit with new lower LeapCard fares and more flexible ticket types.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) recently announced the introduction of a new Leap Green Zone for customers in Cork, and these fare changes were implemented last weekend - from Saturday, December 1.

The new Leap Green Zone in Cork will include the boundary areas of Bandon, Fermoy, Kinsale, Macroom and Mallow - meaning customers there may now avail of lower ‘zonal’ fares. The Leap Card also provides for a 30% discount on single journey cash fares.

Reduced rate Leap Monthly and Annual Taxsaver products will now offer up to €500 in annual savings for some customers.

There will be additional value in travel to/ from the Leap Green Zone, as customers will be able to avail of discounted travel on all Red Zone city services too.

While there are small increases in city cash fares, significant savings remain available to customers who use the Leapcard.

The main highlights of the overall city and county Bus Éireann fare changes this weekend include:

• Cash single fares on all city services increased by 10 cent for adult and child

• Leap Card single fare discount to remain at 30%

• New Leap Green Zone in Cork from boundary areas of Bandon, Fermoy, Kinsale, Macroom and Mallow

• New reduced rate Green Zone Leap Monthly and Annual Taxsaver products offering up to €500 in annual savings for some customers

• Additional value with Green Zone products valid on all Red Zone city services also

Bus Éireann Operations Manager South, Martin Walsh, said both the NTA and Bus Éireann continued to work together to make public transport more attractive as a travel mode.

“Last year there was an extension of the Red City zone to many the suburbs in Cork, resulting in significantly reduced cash and Leap Card fares,” he said. “This year the focus is on Cork County and bringing the boundary areas into a new Green Zone – again resulting in major savings for some customers – particularly those using monthly and annual Taxsaver products.”
