This festive season is packed full of events
MUSKERRY is a lively quarter in the lead-up to and right through Christmas time, with seasonal markets aplenty, festive shows and pantos, music nights and much more.
The Blarney/ Macroom Municipal District Council is promoting a Special Christmas Market in the Town Square on Tuesday, December 11. It will feature stalls with arts and crafts, seasonal foods and a carousel for the kids. The second of two special Christmas markets in Macroom, it is well worth a visit for the goodies on offer and the great festive atmosphere.
The brand new Christmas Panto, ‘Where’s Santa?’, is at the Riverside Park Hotel on Sunday, December 16; Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22, and it sounds like a show not to be missed.
Not so seasonal but certainly of interest, tonight, December 6, there will be an open meeting and discussion in the Mills, Baile Mhuirne at 8pm on the subjects of: ‘Saoirse, The 1918 Election, Cumann na mBan’. Everyone is welcome to this free event.
Also today, Scoil Naomh Laichtín in Donoughmore is celebrating its 70th birthday. Mass will be concelebrated at 11.00am in St Lachteen’s Church, and this will be followed by refreshments in the school. All past pupils/ members of school community are welcome.
At Macroom Library, The Purlies Knitting Group are getting together today, December 6 at 11.30am, and the purlies will also be doing the Christmas display for the front window of the library. The Juvenile Bookclub will meet on Saturday, December 8th at 3pm to discuss ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ by Marita Conlon-McKenna – and, meanwhile, Storytime is every Saturday at midday.
In Inchigeelagh, their annual market is set to take place in Creedon’s Hotel on December 12.
Also at the library, the December Music Morning is Listeners Choice, presented by Jill Vahey. Bring along your favourite piece, seasonal or otherwise, on Friday, December 14.
In Carrigamina, Santa will arrive on Sunday December 16 in a most unusual way. Macroom is well known for its Buffalo cheese, and one of those buffaloes will have the starring role in Carriganima when he will help Santa on his merry way to the pub.
It should make for an exceptional entrance and sets up a very festive atmosphere.
On Friday, December 21 an Irish Traditional Night as a fundraiser for Parkinsons is planned for The Pub and Willie’s Country Roadshow will take place there on St. Stephen’s night. There’s also a Murphy’s Party night out on December 27 with ‘Little Creatures’.
Throughout the run-up to Christmas Dromleigh NS is holding its annual Christmas raffle fundraiser. Tickets are available at Dromey’s Bar, Dromcarra and The Kilmichael Bar. There’s a wonderful array of cash prizes, hampers and vouchers on offer and your support would be appreciated.
Further ahead, the annual Macroom ploughing match will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 on the lands of Martin Healy Carrigathou, Coachford, weather permitting. The starting time is 11.30am.
