The Corkman - - CHRISTMAS IN MACROOM -

MUSKERRY is a lively quarter in the lead-up to and right through Christmas time, with seasonal markets aplenty, festive shows and pantos, music nights and much more.

The Blarney/ Macroom Municipal District Council is promoting a Special Christmas Market in the Town Square on Tuesday, December 11. It will feature stalls with arts and crafts, seasonal foods and a carousel for the kids. The second of two special Christmas markets in Macroom, it is well worth a visit for the goodies on offer and the great festive atmosphere.

The brand new Christmas Panto, ‘Where’s Santa?’, is at the Riverside Park Hotel on Sunday, December 16; Friday, December 21 and Saturday, December 22, and it sounds like a show not to be missed.

Not so seasonal but certainly of interest, tonight, December 6, there will be an open meeting and discussion in the Mills, Baile Mhuirne at 8pm on the subjects of: ‘Saoirse, The 1918 Election, Cumann na mBan’. Everyone is welcome to this free event.

Also at the library, the December Music Morning is Listeners Choice, presented by Jill Vahey. Bring along your favourite piece, seasonal or otherwise, on Friday, December 14.

In Carrigamina, Santa will arrive on Sunday December 16 in a most unusual way. Macroom is well known for its Buffalo cheese, and one of those buffaloes will have the starring role in Carriganima when he will help Santa on his merry way to the pub.

It should make for an exceptional entrance and sets up a very festive atmosphere.

On Friday, December 21 an Irish Traditional Night as a fundraiser for Parkinsons is planned for The Pub and Willie’s Country Roadshow will take place there on St. Stephen’s night. There’s also a Murphy’s Party night out on December 27 with ‘Little Creatures’.
