1918 exhibition is a chance to showcase fight for freedom
HE official opening of an extensive exhibition to mark the pivotal 1918 election towards Ireland’s freedom will take place in Charleville Library on Friday night, December 14 at 8pm.
The exhibition will include a wonderful panel display of the Easter 1916 Rising and its leaders, the North Cork election campaign for local candidate Patrick O’Keeffe, personal memorabilia from local volunteers, by their families, a professional archivist to collect local War of Independence stories, and large scale map of North Cork to identify local battlefield sites.
Some of these stories are already recorded and this exhibition would be an ideal opportunity to relay these stories to people who are unaware of them and to our next generation in the schools.
Local people are requested to bring medals, guns, clothes, flags and any item from that period to the exhibition. It will be an evening to remember and celebrate their efforts for what we have today in Ireland.
