STUN GUN, €44K DRUGS SEIZED IN KANTURK

- MARIA HERLIHY

AS part of an ongoing operation “targetting the sale and supply of drugs” in the Mallow district, Gardai seized approximately €44,000 worth of drugs following the discovery of a grow house in the Kanturk region.

The raid on the grow house occurred last Thursday afternoon. Shortly before 4pm, Gardai from Mallow, assisted by the Regional Support Unit, executed a search warrant and during the course of the search Gardai found cannabis plants and herb along with further controlled drugs which all have an estimated combined street value of €44,000. Included in the search, a stun gun was also seized. No arrests have been made and all of the suspected drugs haul have been sent for analysis.

Last month, a taser-like device disguised as an i-phone was among more than a dozen weapons that were seized along with a suspected cannabis plant during a raid at a house in the Kanturk area.

Gardaí from the area executed a search warrant at a house in the Castlemagner area, seizing the cache of weapons and the suspected drugs during the operation in November.

The weapons seized included six flick knives, three knuckle dusters, a knife/knuckleduster combination and three tasers, including the one disguised as an innocuous looking mobile phone. The cannabis plant, which Gardaí said was worth an estimated €800, has been sent for analysis.

At the time, the Garda spokesperson described the discovery of the taser disguised as a mobile phones as a significant find.
