THE death of Denis Singleton, Blarney and formerly of Watergate Place, Kanturk, removes the last link with the Kanturk Junior hurling team which took the Duhallow title in 1949 and lost out to Bandon in the county final.

Denis was goalkeeper on that Kanturk side. He also won a Novice football championship with Kanturk in 1952 and was a member of the first Kanturk team to win the Duhallow Junior Football Championship in 1954.

The late Denis also won a Cork Senior Football Championship medal in 1955 with Lees and was corner back on that team with the renowned ‘Big’ Donal O’Sullivan from Beara who later went on the be chairman of Cork GAA Board.
