Spreading the festive spirit in Buttevant

-

BUTTEVANT is a community that definitely likes to get the festive spirit going in the town, which means a busy month of December.

Buttevant Community Council held their Christmas Street Market to kick off the festive season 2018, albeit in difficult weather conditions. There were numerous stalls positioned along Main Street displaying all kinds of goodies, local products and festive fayre, whose owners worked, under extreme inclement conditions. There was also lots of entertainment throughout the afternoon, with face-painting, ‘Paw Patrol’’ and ‘ The Incredibles’ cartoon characters present. There was also Christmas dance demos, a magician and an exciting Christmas Treasure Hunt.

Of course, Santa was also around on the day, meeting, and greeting everybody and adding his own sparkle to the occasion.

Then, last Sunday, there a special Christmas party for children, and families, with special needs. Held in Buttevan GAA Hall, Santa was back again on day full of arts and crafts, face painting, sweets and treats for all. A DJ kept the music festive amid lots of fun and games for the children.

Proceeds from the day go to My Canine Companion Autism Assist Dogs Association.

On Sunday evening the annual parish carol service was held in Saint Marys’ Church, Butevant, with all the local musical organisations and schools participating.

Upcoming, the annual reconciliation service for the Christmas season will be held on Monday next, December 17, also in St Mary’s.

Unfortunately, the Cahirmee Singers have had to postpone their seasonal musical evening, planned for Sunday, December 24 - but it’s now something to look forward to in the New Year.

Also in the New Year, the Dorada School of Dance, along with the local ‘Panto Club’, will be staging their panto on Friday and Saturday, February 1/2 in the GAA hall.

This is the setting for Christmas in Buttevant and it’s a time when a year of many efforts come together. And certainly, each new year brings further development, further enhancing the town, its local events and amenities.

And, at Christmas time, the local traders have pulled out all the stops to ensure that shoppers can enjoy choosing from a wide selection of quality goods, while simultaneously getting great value for money this festive season.
