Churchtown’s extra-long Christmas

-

IT looks like Christmas might be lasting in Churchtown somewhat longer than everywhere else.

That’s because, in the midst of its seasonal colour, an RTE camera crew arrived on Wednesday of last week for a programme that will be broadcast in January. Presenter Helen Carroll and a TV crew from Ear to the Ground - the food, farming and rural affairs TV series on RTE 1 filmed a feature at the Slí Eile farm which will be aired in early January 2019.

Of course, with indoor areas of the farm already looking Christmassy we’ll all be seeing ‘Christmas in Churchtown’ in January.

Coming up in Churchtown, on Thursday, December 20 Churchtown National School is hosting its annual Christmas fundraiser. This is a seasonal mixed bag of two performances by the children – at 11am and 1pm – with singing, drama and, of course, Christmas carols. There’s also a coffee morning from 12 noon plus a major raffle with lots of lovely hampers and vouchers for the winners. Everybody is welcome to go along and enjoy the festivities at the school.

No doubt, on display on the day will be the school’s two recently won trophies, when the boys team won the North Cork National Schools football competition. And, for good measure, the school’s first ever all-girls team came runner-up in the girls football competition, earning a plaque.

And if you want to find a unique local gift for somebody this Christmas local resident Sean Bowman may have just the thing.

US-born Sean released his latest CD recently, entitled ‘Sitting In The Sun’, and it’s described as ‘country with a kick’ - receiving good reviews on the airwaves.
