Nollaig Na mBan saw the ladies come out in force last weekend
SISTERS WERE DOING IT FOR THEMSELVES ON THEIR SEASONAL BIG NIGHT OUT
BEFORE the Christmas tree and tinsel were consigned to the attic for another year, women across Cork downed tools on January 6 and headed out on the town to celebrate Nollaig na mBan or Women’s Little Christmas.
With the festival falling on Sunday this year, many decided to mark the occasion on the Saturday night, and hostelries across north Cork reported a brisk trade throughout the weekend.
With the men in their lives reportedly taking on the household chores and babysitting duties for the night, the women met up to party with sisters and groups of friends. This year saw lots of mothers and daughters getting together for the occasion and venues across the region were buzzing on Saturday night, Sunday lunchtime and Sunday night.
With the fine weather continuing to oblige on Sunday, some spent a pleasant few hours out walking while others went to the cinema before going on to enjoy a slap up meal at their favourite restaurants.
Younger women were rounding off the evening with a spot of clubbing, but with work beckoning and schools opening on the Monday, many people opted for an early night and were tucked up snugly in their beds before midnight struck.
