Kanturk secure brilliant win in U17 Super Cup

KANTURK AFC U17’s played College Corinthian­s A on Sunday 6th January in The Super Cup.

The game was played in great conditions at Corinthian­s Park. The home side got off to a good start with a well taken goal. Corinthian­s doubled their advantage after a mix up in the Kanturk defence.

Kanturk failed to deal with a high ball, making it 3-0 down after 30 mins and were dealt a further blow when a Kanturk player was shown a straight red.

Kanturk got back into it after 40 mins when Mikey fired home from an indirect free kick. Just before half time, following good work from David Kilmartin down the right, Cathal Broderick finished well to make it 3-2 at half time.

Kanturk continued to play great soccer, leveling it up with a great goal from Cathal Broderick after brilliant build-up play down the right.

Into extra time Kanturk secured a famous victory win with Niall Breen volleying from the edge of the box.

Kanturk AFC Under 12 Vs Bandon, away on Saturday, January 5

Kanturk played away to league leaders Bandon on Saturday last.

Both sides started strongly with Kanturk having the edge early on but didn’t take advantage of it. Bandon had chances with great goal keeping from Danny Cronin and great defencing from the back three, Marc Watson, Dylan Morley and Eoin O’Keeffe kept them out. Nil all half time.

The second half started the same with very little between both sides, both teams had chances with both hitting the posts. Bandon however scored half way through the second half. Kanturk were unlucky not to equalize minutes later.

Kanturk battled to the end and were unlucky not to draw. Final score: Kanturk 0 Bandon 1. Best for Kanturk were Dylan Morley and Danny Cronin.

Kanturk 2-0 Tower FC, at Gurteenard Saturday, Jan 5

Kanturk continued unbeaten in the league with an impressive but hard fought win over a physical and organised Tower side.

Nil all at half time, but it could have been 2 or 3 but for the heroics of the tower goalkeeper.

In the second half Kanturk were rewarded with the goal they deserved with 15 minutes to go when Ross O’Connor played in Don O’Mahony to cooly slot the ball past the Tower keeper.

Kanturk continued to push on and in the final minute got the deserved second when Nathan Healy hit a great strike from a direct free giving the keeper no chance.

Best for Kanturk on the day were Damien Finn, Martin O’Riordan and Nathan Healy.
