Rugby girls line out at Ireland match

-

IT was a great day for Kankurk RFC’s U12 girls team who had the honour of playing at the opening game of the Ladies Six Nations in Dublin on February 1.

The girls took to the pitch against Virginia RFC from Co Cavan, playing in front of 4,000 plus supporters. They put in a mighty display of fast running rugby, scoring three tries, the first by Alice Buckley closely followed by Saoirse Fitzpatrick.

This was rounded off with a third try just before the final whistle by Lauren Lehane.

The girls were also lucky enough to stand as the guard of honour as Ireland took to the pitch. The weeks of hard work and determination really paid off for these girls.

At present there is 20 girls who train every Saturday morning at 10am, who travel from the greater Duhallow area under the guidance of their head coach, Elaine Buckley, and help from Anthony Linehan, Aidan Lehane and Brian Herbst. New players always welcome.
