Avondhu and Duhallow enjoy success at senior county Scór feast
CLUBS from North Cork delivered rousing performances to collect a run of exciting wins at the County Senior Scór Finals hosted in the presence of an appreciative attendance in the Eire Og GAA Pavilion, Ovens last Saturday night.
On the 50th staging of the event the diverse fare offered an abundance of cultural entertainment with three wins apiece registered by Avondhu and Duhallow clubs.
A double for Boherbue and a victory for Kanturk confirmed a rewarding outing for Duhallow.
Avondhu also had good reason to feel satisfied at the golden jubilee event, with Kilshannig, Kilworth and Milford raising cheers from their respective supporters.
Muireann Vaughan(Kanturk) continued on her winning ways to grab the spoils at solo singing with a splendid rendition of “Fill a Rún Ó”.
Elsewhere Danny Corkery(Milford) emerged best at recitation with a powerful piece titled “Chantelle” to add to a previous win from 2014.
Kilshannig’s Instrumental Music group savoured a triumph, offering plenty of foot tapping with a selection of jigs and reels titled ‘Langstrom’s Pony and the Green Grooves of Erin’.
Meanwhile Kilworth Leiriú delivered a top drawer performance to collect a popular win from their production of ‘A Tribute to the Croppy Boy’.
St James kept the West flags floating with a splendid win in the Ballad Group with their double fare of ‘Éist a Stór’ and ‘ The Mad Lady and Me’. Meanwhile, Boherbue swept home winners to both the figue and set dancing category.
For their consistent endeavours on participating across various disciplines, Boherbue collected the best senior club award, the trophy accepted by Margaret Kiely and Marie Casey.
County cultural officer Richard Murphy oversaw proceedings with Cork Scór secretary Margaret Whelan, treasurer Jerome Casey, and Munster secretary Jerry Doody presenting the prizes to the winners and runners up.
The winners will now go forward to represent Cork in the Munster semi final at the Ovens venue on Saturday, February 23.
