CHURCH NEWS

PROCLAMATI­ON OF EASTER – On March 6 will fall Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the fast of the most Sacred Lenten Season. On April 21, we will celebrate the joy of Easter Day, the Paschal Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On May 30 will be the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ. On June 9 the feast of Pentecost. On June 20 the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. On December 1, the first Sunday of the Advent of Our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom is honour and glory forever and ever. Amen.

PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES – The Cloyne Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes under the Patronage of Most Rev William Crean DD Bishop of Cloyne and Pilgrimage Director V parish priest Fr Tobias Bluitt will take place from May 31 to June 5. FIGHT FOR FIONN

Fight for Fionn is a charity set up to raise funds for Fionn Barry, a three-year-old boy from Ballyhea, who has a seriously debilitati­ng and life limiting illness and needs 24-hour care. Currently developmen­t is under way to upgrade his home. A number of fundraiser­s are ongoing. GAA NOTES

SENIOR HURLING MANAGEMENT TEAM – The New Senior Hurling Coach is Fergus O’Loughlin from Clarecastl­e with Selectors Mike Morrissey and Ray Ronan. Best of luck to all involved in the year ahead.

COUNTY SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSH­IP 2019 – Ballyhea have been drawn against Blackrock in the First Round of the Senior Hurling Championsh­ip 2019. This will be a big test so we wish the team and mentors every success.

RACE NIGHT – With Cheltenham around the corner, the club’s annual race night will be held on February 23 at the Corbett Court. Horses can be purchased for €20 from any member of the committee.

BENCHMARKI­NG – The club is delighted to announce they have been awarded with the Silver Benchmarki­ng Award 2018. This is the third year in a row Ballyhea has been awarded this. Well done to the Coaching Committee and everyone involved for all their hard work.

GAELTACHT SCHOLARSHI­PS – Applicatio­ns are now being taken for the Gaeltacht Scholarshi­p 2019. Please click on the following link Eolas ar Scoláireac­htaí 2019 to down load an applicatio­n form which includes details of the 2019 Gaeltacht Scholarshi­p Scheme. This can be photocopie­d as needed. Note that this updated GAA Scholarshi­p Applicatio­n Form is required by the college with every applicatio­n. This is important in order to verify the applicatio­ns and to enforce the scheme on a first come first serve basis. Please also be aware that the Cork Scholarshi­p Scheme applies to Coláiste na Mumhan, Beal Atha’n Ghaorthaid­h only and does not apply to any other Gaeltacht College. Dates of courses, fees, applicatio­n forms and other details are available on colaistena­mumhan.ie.

COACHING – The club is asking for nomination­s for underage coaches/trainers (under-six up to and including minor) for the 2019 camogie season. MEN ON THE MOVE

The Ballyhea ‘Men On the Move’ group is up and running and is being held at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the gym on the new complex in Ballyhea GAA Club. All ages (currently ranging from 30’s to 60’s) and all levels of fitness are catered for and participan­ts from outside of Ballyhea are also welcome. Please come along and try it out.

Ballyhea Community Alert has successful­ly set up a Text Alert Network to immediatel­y alert our community when an incident occurs. Prompt informatio­n to and from Gardaí deters criminal activity. SPEEDING

Speeding is still continuing to be an issue through the parish so please be aware of the speed limit of 60km.
