FIESTA WIN FOLLOWS TWO DAYS AFTER €20,000 CASH PRIZE IN CORK GAA DRAW

- JOHN TARRANT

POPULAR Banteer/Lyre GAA activist Pat Mannix scooped a first prize of €20,000 in the monthly Cork GAA Clubs Draw – and the wheel of fortune continued to turn for Pat who, within days of the Cork prize, had his name plucked out of a nationwide draw to secure a brand new Fiesta car.

A modest Pat didn’t dance a reel on the sidelines after his winning streak, he was just delighted to sample success. “I’ve been a member of the Cork GAA Clubs draw for a long number of years. It’s a very good draw where a good percentage of the €100 ticket is returned to the club”, said Pat.

Pat is a staunch supporter of charity events and club fund-raisers far and wide, along with attending games throughout Duhallow and Avondhu as well as inter-county fixtures.

“‘ Twas a pleasant surprise to follow up and win the car in the Care Trust draw. They make a very significant contribution to the work of beneficiaries such as the Central Remedial Clinic, Rehab and the Mater University Hospital,” said Pat.

Asked what was his recipe for success, the dedicated Banteer/ Lyre GAA clubman offered the perfect advice. “If you’re not in, you can’t win, and I’ve been lucky. With the longer days fast approaching, I’m ready for happy motoring over the months ahead”, he added.

A formal GAA presentation to Pat was undertaken in conjunction with the staging of the monthly Cork GAA Clubs Draw in Lyre Hall. The attendance was headed by County Board Treasurer Diarmuid Gowen, along with Cork GAA Clubs Draw officials Pearse Murphy and Richard Murphy. Banteer Hurling Club’s Colm Buckley extended a welcome to patrons, extending congratulations to Pat Mannix and thanked supporters of the draw.

Amongst the latest winners in the GAA monthly draw were: €3,000, Liam and Eileen O’Sullivan, Donoughmore; €1,000, Myles O’Malley, Mitchelstown; Luxury Hotel Break, Paschal Ring, Kilshannig; Sports Voucher, Karen Barry, Kildorrery; Sheila Crowley, Aghabullogue; Menswear Voucher, Patrick and Mai Healy, Cill na Martra; Co- Op Stores Voucher, J J Curtin, Kilbrin; €150 to Donal Kelly, Ballydesmond, William O’Regan, Dromtariffe, Liam and Darren Daly, Kilbrin, Eamon Roche, Lyre/Banteer and Mick Buckley, Castlemagner.
