Great turn-out to say farewell to Jackie
THE Edel Quinn Hall was full to capacity when a great crowd turned out to say farewell and thank you to Canon Jackie Corkery as he retires as the parish priest of Kanturk and Lismire.
The evening began with a recital by the Duhallow Choral Society under their musical director, Sharon Reidy, and accompanist Aine Murray. When they completed their programme Bridget Daly made a presentation on behalf of the choir to Canon Jackie.
This was followed by a presentation by Anne Ahearn on behalf of the Kanturk Parish Choir.
Then there was a number of presentations and words of thanks from Eilish Finigan, Kanturk Boy’s School; Aileen Fitzgerald, Lismire School; Bill Cashin, Kanturk and District Community Council, Mary O’Connor, Kanturk Hospital; John Murphy, Colaiste Treasa; Joe Ahearn, Lismire Parish; Derbla Fitzpatrick, Kanturk Girls School.
Canon Corkery replied to all the presentations and he told the large crowd that he would never forget the kindness and friendship he received during his 11 years as the parish priest of Kanturk and Lismire.
The evening finished with refreshments for all, but before the refreshments the Lorraine O’Riordan Gospel Choir entertained the gathering with a great selection of songs that got the crowd clapping along. This was a very fitting end to the evening with everyone enjoying the evening and sending Canon Jackie on to the next part of his life with some good memories of his time in Kanturk.
The evening was compered by Tim Lynch.
