Glen Theatre Drama Group ‘hop’ back into action

- BILL BROWNE

THE Glen Theatre Drama Group will swing back into action this coming Sunday and again the following Sunday n the with their first production of the year at the Banteer venue.

Since its establishment more than a quarter of a century ago the group has evolved into one of the most highly regarded of its kind in the country, regularly selling out shows at the Glen Theatre and at venues across the country.

Having last successfully staged a production of Derek Benfield’s ‘Off the Hook’, the group has once again turned to the creative genius of the late British actor and playwright for their latest offering.

The hilarious ‘Caught On The Hop’, directed by Dave Nagle, sees the impressionable Phil announce to his good friend George that he has fallen for a girl he met on the top deck of a 49 bus.

George is not too surprised at the revelation as such affairs have happened many times in the past and have always blown over.

However, George is somewhat taken aback when he learns that Phil intends to divorce his wife and live with his new girlfriend in the house next door.

However, friends being friends, the obliging George is persuaded to lend a hand, setting in motion a predictably chaotic and frenetic confusion of mistaken identities, plots, counter-plots and much hilarity.

The play features a talented local cast of actors including Tadhg O’Keeffe, Jimmy Noonan, Tim Stuart, Martin O Riordan, Denis O’Connell, Cathy Bailey, Noreen O’Connell, Mary Cronin, Eileen Cotter and a crew of Maureen O’Brien, Mary Ellis, Juilet Bailey, Kevin Angland, Jimmy O’Connell.

Both show will commence at 8.30pm and admission will be €10 at the door.

The play is also set to go on the road in May, with performances at the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork and The Market Place Theatre in Armagh.
