IT’S ALL GREEN FOR ST PATRICK’S DAY

-

MALLOW Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with both the Mallow Branch of Conradh na Gaeilge and the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, have together launched a competition for shops and businesses in the town.

Traders in Mallow are invited to decorate their shop fronts and their businesses next week to reflect our Irishness and to link in with the Saint Patrick’s Day events in the town.

Prizes for this competition are sponsored by Mallow Chamber and Conradh na Gaeilge. There will be a first and a second prize and also a highly commended prize.

Judging will take place between Wednesday and Friday, March 13-15. It is hoped that this competition will encourage local businesses to create a lovely athmosphere in the town for this year’s extended Saint Patrick’s weekend. For the many people who will be in Mallow on the day, for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, having the shop fronts made ‘green’ and colourful will enhance the visitor experience as they amble along Davis Street.

Parade Grand Marshall Jerry Mullane, attending the launch, told The Corkman that it was only right and fitting that the town should look its best on this traditional festive weekend.

Pat Hayes, the President of Mallow Chamber, was also most enthused by the idea of local groups coming together in support of a project which will indeed create a bit of magic in Mallow for both adults and children alike to enjoy. He asked that as many traders in the town as possible should involve themselves in this town project.

Gearóid Ó Ceallacháin of Mallow Conradh na Gaeilge said that their organisation did indeed seek to have the town recognise the importance of being Irish at this time of the year.

There is no entry fee. Traders and shopkeepers who are participating in this competition are asked to contact either Pat Hayes, Gearóid Ó Ceallacháin or indeed Noel O’Connor, chair of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee (087)2738222 before mid-day on Wednesday, March 13 to ensure the judges visit their business and examine their display.

The winner of the first prize will take a special place on the reviewing platform on Saint Patrick’s Day for the Mallow Parade, where the prizes will be given out.
