Hurler Danny O’Flynn is 96fm Cork Sports Star of the Month
BIG congratulations to Charleville hurler Danny O’Flynn, who was the very worthy recipient of the 96fm Cork Sports Star of the Month award for the month of February.
Danny receives the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Charleville in, firstly, winning the county, and then their amazing run through Munster culminating in reaching the All Ireland final on February 10.
Danny was instrumental in all those games and he now joins fellow clubmates Darragh Fitzgibbon and Mervyn Gammell, who were previous winners of the award.
Danny has been an excellent ambassador for the club, along with his younger brother Colm. They have both played with the club since their U12 days, both at hurling and football, and Danny is constantly setting high standards for himself. He is an excellent role model for the younger players both on and off the field.
Since the breakthrough year in 2011, when winning the junior county final, Danny has been a constant and hugely influential player, and proved to be an inspirational captain last year.
Danny, who is a primary teacher based in Ballyhea, has a hectic schedule at present preparing for his wedding at the end of April. He is also taking part in Strictly Come Dancing with Ballyhea School and is involved in the film ‘A Few Good Men’ in the Charleville GAA’s Hollywood Comes to Charleville’ fund-raising drive, plus training for Charleville’s tilt at the County senior hurling championship.
Congratulations, Danny on a well-deserved accolade.
Congratulations also to AllStar Darragh Fitzgibbon, who won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal with UCC last weekend when they defeated Mary Immaculate College Limerick in the final, played at WIT, Waterford.
