GAA NEWS

RESUMPTION OF FOOTBALL LEAGUES – under-14 Football competitions are due to start on March 9, our opening game is against Kanturk, in Kanturk at 2.00 PM.

Under-18 – Division 1 Football League – Killavullen v Ballycastle, in Castletownroche at 11.00 AM.

Neither the refixed under-21 game or the proposed Division 1 Junior Hurling game have been confirmed at the time of the submission of this report.

It is always wise to consult with our website, closer to the date for confirmation, as with last weekend, when the scheduled under-21 game had to be postponed from Friday to Sunday, and underwent three different venues, before the appointed referee declared on Sunday, that the chosen pitch in Grange was deemed unplayable.

TOUGH CONDITIONS BUT OPENING WIN FOR UNDER 16S – Last Saturday evening in Buttevant, Killavullen made a winning debut in this year’s under-16 football league when they defeated our hosts on a final score of 3-13 to 3-05.

The conditions were not conductive to open attacking football, but Killavullen would have reason to be pleased with their overall performances and especially in the second half when they scored 1-09 against a strong wind. A feature of that second period was the ability of the Killavullen backs, in particular to offer themselves up as an attacking option going forward, and that speaks volumes to the training that they have done in advance of this game.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PATRICIAN ACEDEMY – Killavullen GAA Club would like to extend their congratulations to the Patrician Academy Mallow on their recent Corn Sheáinmhic Mhurchidh (under-19 C Football) Final win. This strong Academy team will face the Leinster champions in the all-Ireland semi-final on March 9
