Fermoy Camera Club making all the right choices

- BILL BROWNE

LIFE is all about choices and that was the theme of the Fermoy Camera Club’s latest monthly competition, which challenged members to let their create juices flow to create that ‘perfect image’.

“The open theme of the competition meant that photos could have been taken in any place at any time, so it was a great opportunity for us to root through the archives and choose any image we fancied,” said PRO Helen Arnold.

A strong field of 32 entries gave competition judges Michael O’Brien, John Bermingham, John Pelham and Richard Cutbill from Dungarvan Camera Club the tough task of picking the grade winners.

“Not only were they generous with their time judging but they also gave each photo an individual critique and shared their expertise with us on the night,” said Helen.

The overall winner was George O’Keeffe with his stunning layered image depicting Ballard and Killarney – two of his favourite places to take photographs.

“George has made the trip to Ballard hundreds of times, but this shot captured the light he had been searching for,” said Helen.

Sinead Hickey claimed second place with her evocative image of a butterfly on a flower taken during a Camera Club trip to West Cork, with Louise Howard’s captivating black and white portrait claiming third place and the grade 2 win.

Helen Coughlan’s colourful image of a pheasant amid a carpet of bluebells take an Curraghmore Gardens in Waterford was the grade 3 winning entry.
