Painting Millstreet green on St Patrick’s Day

-

MILLSTREET puts its best foot forward in salute of the national feast day to acknowledge St Patrick this Sunday.

Again, the town’s Community Council are planning a late afternoon celebration with a new emphasis placed on school participation, increased prize money and entertainment for young and old.

The official parade is up and away at 5pm, starting on Station Road and continuing to a formal review stand in the Town Square.

A special prize will be presented for the best window display, in addition to a best centenary display by an individual or group.

Millstreet Pipe Band again lead the parade, and it completes a hectic day; they perform a St Patrick’s Day recital in Ballydaly after 9am Mass and also participate in the Killarney parade.

Participants are reminded that the Millstreet assembly is at the front carpark of the Green Glens on the Station Road from 4.30pm, with the parade commencing at 5pm. There will be prizes on the day for the first, second and third place in each of the categories. The Denny Pop Memorial cup will go the best fleet on the day.

There will be also a prize for the best window display in the town; this competition is open to all business and private residences in the town.

The Millstreet Organising Committee are asking for people along the parade route to put out flags, bunting and banners to help paint the town green on the day. The entertainment kicks off at 4.30pm in the square, with traditional Irish music and step dancers on the viewing stand by Millstreet Comhalthas.
