Duarigle Gaels and Boherbue renew rivalry in U-21 Football Championship encounter

- John Tarrant

THE Central Stores, Kanturk Duhallow U-21 ‘B’ FC has roused terrific interest and potentially, some great football lay in store, not least the clash of Boherbue and Duarigle Gaels in Millstreet on this Friday night.

The sides met twice last season, first time out, Boherbue mounted a terrific late rally to snatch a dramatic win. But when the sides clashed in the subsequent decider, the Millstreet and Cullen combination were forced to dig deep, raising their performance level considerably and a productive finish yielded the dividends.

From this campaign, Duarigle were pushed all the way by a gutsy Knocknagree in a thrilling opening round.

On the balance of play, the holders just about deserved their victory yet challengers Knocknagree can take alot of positives from a game that hung in the balance right up to the last whistle. Duarigle displayed great character as the positive play of Shane Hickey, Colm O’Leary, Colin Walsh and Mike Twomey brought order to their game.

Meanwhile, a scoring spree during the opening half steered Boherbue well clear of Croke Rovers. At the end of the hour, there was no disputing that Boherbue emerged worthy victors, largely trouble free for last season’s runners up after utilising a strong wind to establish an early dominance.

Key to Boherbue were Jack Daly, Colin O’Keeffe, David O’Connor, Bryan Herlihy and Gerry O’Sullivam. Expect an attacked conscious Boherbue have a right go yet Duarigle might hold the balance to shade a narrow win between two quality sides.

From a lone quarter final between back door team, Knocknagree will fancy their chances against Croke Rovers for the right to play Kanturk in the penultimate hurdle.

Dromtariffe and Robert Emmets square up for an appealing clash in the Central Stores U21CFC Final at Glantane on this Friday night. The pairing is no surprise given the sides parade strong and skilful teams the expectations are both outfits will battle it out to the last whistle that’s sure to provide fans with an entertaining encounter.

To date, Dromtariffe brushed aside St. Peters with a dominant display that yielded excellent scores with Evan Murphy shooting 0-11.Possessing a line up that includes Ray Daly, Brian O’Keeffe and Brandon Murphy in defence, the midfield pairing of Tomás Howard and Conor O’Callaghan will be full of energy as will the accurate Murphy, Killian O’Sullivan and Aidan Downey up front.

Likewise Robert Emmets encountered a straight forward run, two games played, pulling away from both Lyre and St. Peters. Key to Emmets game is the solid workrate of Josh O’Keeffe, Cathal Browne and Michael Browne in defence with Aidan Browne and Cian Crowley likely starters at midfield. And in attack, David Cottrell and Ryan O’Keeffe are capable of landing key scores.

There is little expected these two well-matched sides, Dromtariffe parade a number of their Co. JAFC winning combination. However Emmets field a forceful lineup, that balance of physique and skill may well be good enough to take the title by a narrow margin.
