Stoppage points secure Kiskeam draw with Ballincollig
Kiskeam 0-12 Ballincollig 1-9
A WINTER’S day in Kiskeam saw the hosts deliver a late flourish to earn a draw with Ballincollig. Hail, rain and sleet fell on the proceedings yet the competitive nature continued right into injury time with Kiskeam availing of a pair of Seán O’Sullivan points to secure a share of the spoils.
Points from Tom O’Sullivan and David Scannell got Kiskeam off the mark yet Ballincollig grabbed the contest’s lone goal, good work by former inter county player Paddy Kelly placed Peter O’Neill to net for a 1-4 to 0-6 lead at the break.
Not too much in the contest all through the second half, Kiskeam encouraged by Daniel Cronin, Shane Carroll and Tomás Dennehy remained right in the hunt. However they left it late in the howling gale for O’Sullivan to bag late points for a stalemate outcome. A MORE forceful Lyre saw off the challenge from Castlemagner in the Ducon Cup played at Banteer. Dictating matters for long spells, there was no disputing that Lyre emerged the better balanced and more accomplished side. Indeed Lyre displayed all the early urgency with Damien Kearney, Brendan Withers, Timmie Murphy and Kevin Tarrant to the fore.
Upfront, Barry Murphy, Cathal O’Donoughue and Denis Roche found the range as did Alan Coughlan with a goal. Castlemagner took a time to impose themselves, Seán Falvey’s goal narrowed the deficit 1-9 to 1-1.
Prompted by the play of Falvey and David O’Mahony, Castle’ came with a surge after the break yet Lyre remained far more fluent and assured, goals from Conor O’Keeffe and Colm Coughlan completed the task on hand. LYRE:
