Macroom FC’s green & white the perfect blend for parade
ONE of the biggest events in the Macroom community calendar is the annual St Patrick’s Day parade and, yet again, it was a great success. A huge amount of organising goes into this event and many volunteers work behind the scenes to ensure the smooth running of proceedings.
The club was delighted with the turnout of underage boys and girls to walk in the parade. The green and white colours of Macroom are ideal for the national holiday and everyone had plenty of colours on show.
Macroom FC were delighted again this year to walk the parade with the underage players and coaches from Macroom Juvenile GAA and Macroom Ladies Gaelic Football clubs.
As many players are playing both soccer and GAA it makes perfect sense for the clubs to work together in a positive fashion.
The parade is a perfect way to showcase the increasingly excellent relationship we have with Macroom Juvenile GAA clubs.
Meanwhile, all at Macroom FC were delighted to see two winners of the €3,200 jackpots on March 4. Margaret Kelleher c/o June’s and Gerard Kelleher c/o Murray’s were the lucky winners. Congratulations to both and enjoy the winnings.
The club would like to thank all those who support the lotto as it is a vital financial source. Many thanks also to those businesses and individuals who sell the tickets on a weekly basis.
On the playing field, there were a large number of cancellations again over recent weeks and hopes remain that the rain might stop at some point.
In the U15 schoolboys league Macroom A welcomed Blarney to Murrayfield and recorded an excellent 3-0 victory.
Macroom hit the front on 11 minutes when Liam Holland went on a fine solo run and he managed to finish well. Blarney responded with good pressure but Macroom were working hard all over the field. The second goal arrived just before half time when Alan Desmond found Rory Duggan and he made no mistake.
The third goal came late on when James Slattery fired home a lovely free kick. A top performance from Macroom in which Eoin Healy, Charlie Burke and Stiofan McSweeny impressed.
The Under 11 girls travelled to Cobh, taking on Springfield in a number of very entertaining games. And the U15 girls’ side were also away to Springfield.
A cracking tie ensued with Macroom unlucky to lose out 5-4. Regardless of the result it was a mighty performance from the girls.
The U12 boys were away to Mayfield Utd, trailed twice yet still emerged with a fantastic 3-2 win. Macroom worked hard all over the field and fully deserved their victory. Cian O’ Donovan had a storming game, scoring a brilliant hat trick in a great squad performance.
Meanwhile, Delforno Tiles, Timber and Bathroom have kindly sponsored a set of jerseys for the U10 boys’ squad.
