Malow Town boys capture U12 regional soccer title

-

MALLOW Town FC won the under 12 Regional Cup final with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Castleview in Douglas on Bank Holiday Monday.

It was their second match in 48 hours after overcoming Mallow United 4-1 in the semi-final on Saturday morning.

Having lost out last year in the Under 11 Ed Healy Cup final, these young boys were not going to let it happen again this year. Straight from the off Mallow put pressure on the Castleview back line and in the fifth minute a Mallow long throw into the box was bundled home by Denzell Obenge. Casteview tried to come back into the match but were having no luck against the Mallow defenders Scott McCabe, Galileo Erhabor and Arron O’ Flynn.

Eoin Howell and Denzell Obenge ran the midfield and cut out any Castleview attacks.

Mallow extended their lead midway through the half when Alex Uwumarogie raced onto a ball to fire home a thunderbolt from the edge of the box. Castleview threatened with a few corners and one long range shot which was comfortably dealt with by Jason Doody in goal.

Just before half time Denzell picked the ball up in his own half and ran the full length of the field to tap in from close range. An Eoin Howell corner at the start of the second half was excellently headed home by Denzell for his hat-trick.

John Downey was unlucky not to score when he rounded a few Castleview defenders only for the keeper to save at close range and the keeper again did very well to keep a long range shot from Eoin Howell from going in.

Denzell wrapped up the scoring with five minutes remaining when he turned two defenders to race into the penalty box and fire home past the keeper.

Solid performance from Graeme O’Halloran, who was returning from injury, and Jamie McAuliffe was lively up front. Aaron Power put in a good shift for the last 15 mins. Great all round team performance.

Great joy and celebrations at the final whistle as Eoin Howell and Aaron O Flynn both lifted the Damien Delaney Under 12 Regional Cup. It is a great achievement for the newly formed club to receive the highest honour at this age level. Great credit to the coaches, David Howell, Denis O’Flynn, Kieran O’Sullivan and Liam Power for all the hard work put into this group of kids over the past few years.

Thanks to all the supporters who travelled to Douglas to cheer on the lads and they were not disappointed with the display put on.
