THE Dairygold’s Co-Op Superstores Mallow 10 Mile Road Race, takes place on Sunday with upwards of 2,000 athletes registered to take part.

Mallow AC Chairperson, Clive Aherne explained the 31st annual running of the event remains highly popular.

“The 2019 race is going to be our biggest to date with a sold-out field of 2000 runners. We look forward to welcoming all runners to Mallow for what will be a big community event,” he said.

Last year a massive 1,244 runners took part and in mild conditions, Alan O’Shea (Bantry AC) took the honours in 51 minutes, 48 seconds from Trevor Power (Waterford) and James McCarthy (East Cork) filling the runner up positions. The reigning ladies holder is Jill Hodgins from Leevale, having bettered Fiona Santry (East Cork) and Sorcha Kearney (St. Finbarrs).

After a number of years off the scene, The Dromina 10-mile Race returns on April 14 (12 noon) with a 10K also incorporated into the programme separately with a 12.30pm start. A familiar face from the past returns, the race will be started by Olympic athlete and record holder Jerry Kiernan.

Meanwhile, Gneeveguilla AC are again promoters of the annual Jack O’Keeffe Boherbue to Kiskeam Road Race on Easter Monday, April 22.

Looking ahead to Sunday, April 28, Mount Hilary AC host their inaugural 5k in Banteer with an early starting time of 10am.
