There was plenty to celebrate at the Banteer camogie victory function last weekend
BANTEER and Lyre Juvenile GAA joined up with their Ladies Football and Camogie clubs’ counterparts to host a combined victory social at the Springfort Hall, Mallow.
Excellent fare on the sporting fields was acknowledged by all three juvenile clubs convening to celebrate the achievements of the past year.
Amongst the large attendance was former Cork senior hurler Lorcán McLoughlin who lauded the boys and girls on their endeavours and the selection of medals and trophies confirmed a rewarding season for all involved with Gaelic games.
“These are amongst the best days of your life, playing along with your friends on teams so continue in your pursuit of games ”, he said.
The Kanturk star also spoke of the contribution of club officers, team management and parents.
“Continue to promote Gaelic games and motivate the young players. Well done to the outstanding achievements”, he said.
During the night of celebration, Banteer Camogie made a presentation to Elizabeth Philpott in recognition of making the Cork Development squad. The Minor camogie team received their medals after winning the Minor county league.
The Ladies football club took the opportunity to make a presentation to Saoirse Foley for securing a place on the U14 Cork Football panel.
This was only the second time in the history of the club that an underage player made the Cork Panel. Team wise, the club presented North Cork medals to the U-12, U-14 Minor teams.
The Banteer Juvenile GAA Club presented medals to the U1-4 Hurlers who won the Dermot Sheehan Memorial Cup in Castletownroche.
Individually, the clubs saluted the pursuit of excellence with the Kieran Foley perpetual shield for U-16 Juvenile GAA player of the year presented to Pierce Weathers for his consistent contribution to the team.
Club stalwart, Noreen O’Brien who served as child Welfare officer for both Camogie and Ladies Football clubs received a special award.
The formalities were followed by a disco.
