Apprenticeship open evening in Castletown
EMPLOYERS considering taking on an apprentice will be interested in an information evening being hosted by the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership on Wednesday, April 3.
The purpose of the event, which will take place in the Partnership’s offices at The Mill, Castletownroche from 7pm – 9pm, is to offer young people from the North Cork region interested in pursuing an apprenticeship an opportunity to explore their options.
The apprentice co-ordinator with the Cork Education and Training Board (CETB), Elaine Murphy, will be on hand over the course of the night to present information on the range of apprenticeships on offer and to answer any queries people may have.
A Partnership spokesperson said apprenticeships are a recognised means by which people are trained to become craftspeople, with the model also bringing many benefits to employers.
They said courses are based on “uniform, pre-specified and industry agreed standards” that comply with the current and future needs of a chosen occupation.
“The systematic development and assessment of skills and competencies allow apprentices to achieve greater productivity and reach certain standards over a shorter period of time. In addition, apprentices receive an allowance while attending ‘off-the-job’ training.”
The spokesperson said they are inviting local employers interested in engaging with the apprenticeship process to attend next week’s open evening.
“This is an excellent opportunity for qualifies craftspeople to train and mentor a young person in their chose skill and to ensure that industry can be supplied with highly qualified craftspeople into the future.”
Admission to the open evening is free and all are welcome.
