Mind and body first for St Mary’s pupils

-

WELLBEING week ran from March 11-15 in St Mary’s Secondary School this year. Wellbeing is the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy, and the aim of the week was to promote an awareness of how to help improve the students’ wellbeing both in school and at home.

Throughout the week, students attended various talks around the area of wellbeing. These talks included tutorials on how to deal with anxiety and depression, how to make better lifestyle choices, under-age drinking and many more.

The first and second-year students also attended workshops such as céili dancing, reading, self-defence and circuit training to promote positive mental health and physical activity.

The week was organised by the wellbeing ambassadors of the school and, with the help of Angelina Ryle, they officially announced their wellbeing mascot as Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

As well as this, every student in the school wrote a positive message or quote on colourful ribbons. These ribbons were displayed outside the school gate as a symbol for wellbeing week.

It was a very successful week as it highlighted to every student that feeling unhappy and stressed are normal emotions and that there is always someone you can talk to during these difficult times. Wellbeing week was also extremely enjoyable as all the students of St. Mary’s got to experience many different talks, workshops and activities - a nice break from the usual routine of school life.
