Fermoy have close League win over neighbours

Fermoy 3-11 Grange 1-11

A well equipped Fermoy side proved too good for Grange in the Division 1 FL at Fermoy on Wednesday. James Campion placed Mark Flynn for the opening score.

David Lardner had the winners 0-2 clear after 4 minutes. Grange got back level by the 8th minute with Noel Barry pointing two frees.

The winners then had their first goal when Garry O’Callaghan and David Lardner worked well for James Campion who netted. Fermoy led from here on. Noel Barry pointed another rfree with Fermoy replying by Sean McCarthy and Mark Flynn as they opened up a lead 1-4 to 0-3.

Further Fermoy pressure yielded points by David Lardner and Mark Flynn. John Carmody kept Grange in touch with a fine point. David Lardner added two more points with Grange finishing strong with 3 points by Noel Barry (2) and Alan McNamara as they close the gap at the break 1-8 to 0-7.

On the resumption there was a further exchange of points. Darren Roche with a point cut the lead to a goal 1-9 to 0- 9. Fermoy hit a purple patch using the short passing to great effect.

James Molloy and Cian O’Carroll followed with points with Mark Flynn with a 42nd minute goal opening up a lead 2-11 to 0-9. Kurt Wheeler pointed a Grange free entering the final quarter. Fermoy had their 3rd goal in the 48th minute when James Campion with a free picked out Mattie Condon who made it 3- 11 to 0-10. Grange battled to the end. Kurt Wheeler had another pointed free.

In the closing moments Darren Roche put Trevor Hynes through for a Grange goal that was followed by the final whistle.
