Sin ger Sean Kean e for Mallow

- Eugene COSGROVE

SEAN Keane, considered by many to be the most distinctive voice in Ireland, will perform with his backing band in Mallow for the first time on Wednesday, July 24, the opening night of Mallow Arts Festival 2019.

Although heavily influenced by traditional styles and values, Sean cannot be categorised simply as a traditional singer. Whether the songs are traditional, folk, country or blues, he applies a unique voice and individual style you will never forget.

Arts Festival chairperson Tadhg Curtis said that he was delighted that Sean would perform in Mallow. “We surveyed the audience coming out of the very successful Mary Coughlan concert last year and asked them who they would like to see in 2019 and Sean Keane was the name most frequently mentioned,” said Tadhg.

The concert, which will be held in the Hibernian Hotel, is likely to sell out and concert goers are advised to get their tickets early. Tickets, priced at €25, are available from the Hibernian Hotel and on Eventbrite.ie.

Mallow heritage and tourism drive

THE Heritage and Tourism committee of Mallow Development Partnership over the past few months has been working with local tourism providers and Cork County Council to initiate a credible tourism experience for Mallow and its wider area.

With Bord Failte predicting an increase of visitor numbers to Ireland over the next few years it is important that Mallow and North Cork are geared up to benefit. This work will continue over the summer months with the intention of a convincing and attractive experience being presented to this area and being supported and promoted by Failte Ireland through its formidable online network.

Any persons interested in this project or who feel they have something to offer would be very welcome to participate in the committee.

Being a volunteer organisation, the Heritage and Tourism committee of MDP will hold a Church gate collection on this coming weekend at St. Mary’s Church and Church of the Resurrection. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
