- MARIA HERLIHY

THERE are over 60 creative projects in the Rebel county and with applications surging for a Cork County Council grant of €70,000 it amounts to an average allocation of €1,119 per project.

The Creative Ireland Programme received 88 applications this year, which was more than double for last year.

The 2019 allocations were passed at Council meeting last week, with €70,495 made available for 63 different projects around the County – an average allocation of €1,119 per project. A broad range of different proposals were granted, each with a strong link to the key Creative Ireland principles, from the engagement of young people and communities in creative endeavours, to promoting the Irish language and showcasing what the County of Cork has to offer by way of culture.

Chief Executive of Cork County Council, Tim Lucey said: “The Creative Ireland County Cork Grant Scheme is supporting some of the most insightful and innovative cultural projects around. It is a credit to all those behind the projects and to our Culture Team involved in delivering the Creative Ireland Programme within the County’.

Cllr. Patrick Gerard Murphy said that County Cork is truly alive when it comes to Culture and Creativity. “And a brief look at the successful applications under this year’s Creative Ireland Grant Scheme shows the huge variety of cultural projects and ideas that are continuously being developed.”
