Cruinniú urges na nóg to get creative next month
THIS summer, Cork County Council is inviting all children and young people to fire up their imaginations by taking part in one of more than 30 free creative activities taking place on Saturday, June 15 as part of Creative Ireland Programme Initiative - Cruinniú na nÓg - supported by Cork County Council and RTÉ.
Now in its second year, Cruinniú na nÓg, led by the Creative County Cork Culture and Creativity Team, with huge support from local artists, arts organisations, creative practitioners and community festivals, will see a diverse range of activities to explore from traditional Irish Music to Creative Animation.
Council chief executive Tim Lucey, said: “Cruinniú na nÓg is a wonderful opportunity for young people to truly appreciate their creative potential and their role in local community and culture. Cork County will see a wide variety of tremendous events and I commend the Council’s Culture and Creativity Team for putting such a great programme in place.”
Mayor of the County of Cork, Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy said that schemes like this one, offering a wide range of local, free events that are truly accessible to all, have the potential to transform children’s lives and our communities too.”
On behalf of RTÉ, partners to Cruinniú na nÓg, DirectorGeneral Dee Forbes, said, “Creativity and community are at the heart of RTÉ’s new mission statement. They are also core principles of the Creative Ireland Programme’s Cruinniú na nÓg, which makes this partnership especially important for us. Encouraging and supporting opportunities for children and young people to come together to experience and explore their creative potential is a brilliant initiative. The diversity of creative activities available, from gaming to a starter course in stop-start animation to Japanese kite-making, is part of what makes Cruinniú na nÓg so unique.”
