Double league defeat for Kanturk footballer­s

OVER the past week Kanturk fulfilled two county division two football league games. Fielding very much under strength sides, Kanturk, with home advantage, lost to Mallow on a 2-12 to 3-15 score line on Wednesday last 22nd May and on Sunday, 26th May came unstuck away to Newmarket on a 2-14 to 6-12 score line.

Attention now turns to the RedFM SHL with an away tie to Midleton on Friday, May 31, at 7.30pm. Kanturk will be very much under strength once again but the game will give fringe players match experience as the team management try to build for the resumption of the championsh­ip in August.

After the bank holiday weekend our Premier Intermedia­te footballer­s will return to league action with a home division two tie against Clyda Rovers on Wednesday, June 5, at 8pm.

JUVENILE AFFAIRS: In the Rebel Óg North U14 Div2 Hurling league (Plate) semi-final, Kanturk lost out to Buttevant on Thursday last, 23rd May at Ballyhea by 2-09 to 8-12 while our U12 hurlers got the better of Dromtarrif­fe in their league tie by 5-07 to 2-09.
