Pobal Scoil na Trionoide (Youghal) 4-13 Mitchelsto­wn C.B.S 0-17

POBAL Scoil na Trionoide (Youghal) took the Cork Colleges U-14 B HC title at Fermoy on Thursday.

The game was keenly contested for long periods. Two goals in the last quarter proved decisive as the East Cork side emerged winners. CBS opened with early points by David Conroy and Oisin Ryan. Youghal had their first score a point by Sean Meade after three minutes. The same player levelled soon after. Youghal had their first goal by their impressive captain James Murray in the seventh minute.

The East Cork side added three points in succession as they moved 1-5 to 0-2 clear. CBS picked up their game considerab­ly. However they relied mainly on Oisin Ryan for scores.

Ryan struck three points with Shane Coughlan with a Youghal point giving his side a lead after 22 minutes 1-6 to 0-5. James Murray soloed through and pointed edging his side double scores clear 1-7 to 0-5.

Good play for CBS by Ben Carey and Eoin Flynn led to a Killian Cronin point. Youghal struck for a goal by Sean Meade. Charlie English, Oisin Ryan and Eoin Flynn had late points as the winners led at the break 2-8 to 0-9.

CBS did very well on the changeover. They broke the dominance of Youghal in midfield and they created some good chances. Both centre backs Conor O’Leary and Cathal English were very impressive. C.B.S got within three points entering the final quarter 2-10 to 0-13.

They had the momentum and four rapid points by Oisin Ryan (3) and Eoin Flynn had them ahead 0-17 to 2-10 by the 51st minute. Pobal Scoil moved James Murray to attack and this proved vital. Murray first levelled and then placed Sean Meade who goaled 3-11 to 0-17.

Pobal Scoil finished very strong with James Murray adding another goal and two points as they emerged winners in the end by an 8 point margin.
