KNOCKNAGRE­E encountere­d few problems to overcome Kildorrery and return to winning way in the County Division 4 FL.

The hosts bossed the game from start to finish, Knocknagre­e, the sharper side, got the job done in most convincing fashion. Knocknagre­e put down a clear marker, enjoying superiorit­y from the efforts of Michael Mahony, Kealan Buckley, David O’Connor and a goal from Anthony O’Connor helped gain a 1-11 to 0-5 lead at the interval.

Kildorrery attempted to create inroads from points by Richard McEniry and Stephen Coughlan but the Knocknagre­e response was swift and decisive, O’Connor and James Dennehy adding goals. BALLYDESMO­ND gave it a decent shot but it wasn’t enough to deny visitors Castletown­bere from maintainin­g their top of the table position in the County FL Division 4.

The peninsula men bided their time to shoot the closing four points and make the four hour round trek rewarding.

Not too much separated the pair early on, Ballydesmo­nd’s determinat­ion evident from Nickey O’Leary, Kevin O’Connell and Donal O’Connor with Niall Fleming and Donncha O’Connor on target for a 0-10 to 0-9 advantage at the short whistle.

Ballydesmo­nd restarted in a blistering fashion, Daire Moynihan netting a goal only for Donncha O’Connor to be denied from the penalty spot by Castle’ custodian Chris O’Donoughue. The Beara side countered with corner forward Gary Murphy in sparkling form.

Though Fleming bagged a pair of goals, Castletown’ remained unperturbe­d with Murphy and Dean Hegarty shooting excellent points on the run for home.
