Kilshannig 6-13 Clyda Rovers 0-8

THIS Cavanagh’s Fermoy Division 2 Football league game between neighbours Kilshannig and Clyda Rovers was one sided at Mourneabbe­y on Thursday evening.

Jack Kearney and Darren O’Riordan opened with early points for the winners. Clyda Rovers lost impressive midfielder Kenneth Fitzgerald and they struggled from there on. Gavin Carey and William Cronin with a point each had the lead down to one after 14 minutes 0-4 to 0-3. Roddy O’Mahony pointed for the winners from long range. A foul on Gavin Carey led to a pointed free by William Cronin. Jack Kearney was in great form on the ‘40’.

In the 19th minute Kearney placed James O’Hanlon whose effort came back off the post to Kearney who goaled. Roddy O’Mahony followed with a point. In the closing moments a foul on Phelim O’Connell produced a penalty that Kearney converted giving Kilshannig an interval lead 2-6 to 0-4.

Throughout the game both keepers were in great form. Johnny O’Sullivan despite being beaten on six occasions made some great saves over the hour. Equally Colm O’Dea was very solid between the posts for the winners.

On the restart Kilshannig won the throw in and Diarmuid O’Sullivan goaled within 20 seconds. James O’Hanlon and Roddy O’Mahony followed with a point each. Good play by Maurice O’Brien led to a Clyda point by Gavin Carey. O’Brien followed with another pointed free. Jack Kearney and Phelim O’Connell replied for the winners. Good play by Liam Casey led to a great Jack Kearney point as Kilshannig were 3-11 to 0-6 clear. Both sides exchanged a point before impressive James O’Hanlon goaled. William Cronin pointed another free for the home side.

In the closing moments Jerome Murphy worked well for Jack Kearney who netted. In injury time Liam Casey placed John Quinn who had the winner’s sixth goal. This win puts Kilshannig on top of the table with full points from their four games to date.
