Glanworth have deserved win over Ballyhooly in Div ision 2 FL

A WELL-BALANCED Glanworth side emerged deserving winners over Ballyhooly in the Cavanagh’s Fermoy Division 2 FL at Glanworth on Friday evening. Ballyhooly had the opening two points by Fraech McGrath and Jake Mehigan. Glanworth gradually settled. Good play by Ger O’Neill led to an opening point by Liam Cotter. In the 11th minute Brian Whelan worked a good ball to impressive Colm Whelton who levelled.

Glanworth gained control in midfield. Their forwards in regular supply and they had some good scores. Ballyhooly overall lacked penetration up front. They relied mainly on Kevin Kiely for scores. A foul on Denis Gallagher led to a pointed free by Liam Cotter. Eric Hanrahan pointed with Liam Cotter adding a pointed free in the 18th minute.

Glanworth forced a penalty when Jesse Walsh gave a good delivery to Aaron Noonan who was brought down and Liam Cotter converted the penalty 1-5 to 0-2. Good play by Francis J O’Flynn led to a Jerome Fitzgibbon goal. Brian Whelan made it 2-6 to 0-2. Ballyhooly had two late points by Kevin Kiely (free) and Seamus Roche in injury time after good play by Cathal O’Keeffe. At the break Glanworth led 2-6 to 0-4.

On the restart Liam Cotter and Peter Aherne exchanged an early point. Good play by Brian Whelan, Liam Cotter and Francis J O’Flynn led to another Liam Cotter point. Kevin Kiely had a couple of points for Ballyhooly from frees and play. Ballyhooly tried very hard for a goal to get them back in contention. Glanworth defence held firm and they maintained a comfortable lead. Denis Gallagher soloed through and kicked a very good point. They had an injury time goal by Eric Hanrahan that them easy winners in the end.
