SUMMER’S HERE

Summer Holidays have begun for all non-exam secondary students this week. We wish them a safe and memorable summer full of fun, adventure and memories, while also encouragin­g them to be mindful of road safety, water safety and farm safety as they unwind from school, study and homework.

PARISH SPORTS

Killavulle­n Parish Sports will take place this year on Thursday, June 13, at 630 p.m. in Killavulle­n GAA grounds. Save the date and dust off the running gear. While the children look eagerly look forward to their individual races, the family relay is a very competitiv­e and much anticipate­d event on the night and creates a remarkable buzz on the night.

JUVENILE GAA

Clyda U 11’s played away in a very challengin­g game on Wednesday evening against Rathcormac. Team: Back Row Adam O Sullivan, Jack O Connell, David Nyhan, Tyler Dempsey, Sean Ambrose, Zack Thornhill, Adam O Connor, Paul Kelly, Joshua Walsh, Ronan Hayes, Front Row: Tadgh Ambrose, Donncha Cronin, Gavin Walsh, Evan Walsh, Sean Mullane, Feilim Buckley.

U12’s played the football League Final in Castletown­roche on Tuesday night last 21st May against Mitchelsto­wn. Mitchelsto­wn opened the scoring, which was quickly cancelled out by a fine Point from Connor McCarthy, Mitchelsto­wn replied scoring two frees in quick succession. Clyda got the all-important goal from Cian Cooney along with further points from Tyler Dempsey and Connor Murphy leaving the half time score Clyda 1-4 Mitchelsto­wn 0-04. The second half Clyda took over completely adding a further 2-07 with Jason Breen & Cian Cooney adding further goal and Points coming from Gavin Walsh, Connor O Mullane, Jason Breen and Connor Murphy. The defence was outstandin­g throughout led by captain Kieran Adams, Michael O Keeffe, Cormac Cooney, Connor O Mullane and Ciaran O Sullivan. Full time score Clyda 3-11 Mitchelsto­wn 0-08.

U 14’s played a hurling league Semi-final on Friday night 24th May against St Catherines in Shanballym­ore. Clyda had settled two early goals from Mark Kelleher and Cathal O Riordan within the first five minutes followed by a point from Niall Burke. St Catherines powered into the game with a goal and six points. Sean O Sullivan replied with a point and a marvellous goal from Kieran Buckley. Aidan Kelly followed with a point. Clyda started the second half with early points from Harry O Rourke and Mark Kelleher. However, St Catherines came hard with two goals within three minutes of each other being the turning point of the game and putting them three points up. Clyda responded with two points narrowing the margin to one but St Catherines scored two late points winning by three. Final score line Clyda 3-7 St Catherine’s 3-10.

Clyda U6’s participat­ed in a Monster Football Blitz organised by Rebel Og on Tuesday night in Carrigoon GAA showing off their talents all round. It was a huge event with over 200 children taking part. The kids had a great evening.

Clyda U8’s were busy at a hurling Blitz in Doneraile on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile the U9’s were playing Charlevill­e on Saturday morning.
