Big win for Kilshannig over Dromina in JAHC

THERE was a major shock in the JAHC on Saturday evening in Churchtown where Kilshannig had a very big win over Dromina. Dromina have been champions on a number of occasions and have made the knockout stages regularly.

On this occasion Kilshannig aided by the breeze in the first half took control. They had five points by the fifth minute with Kevin O’Flynn (2) Colm O’Shea and the O’Hanlon brothers Killian and Eanna having one each.

Dromina had their opening score by Luke Morrissey. Killian O’Hanlon and Dermot Twomey with points opened up a lead 0-7 to 0-1. Dromina had two points by David Jones one from a free and play. In the 15th minute Eanna O’Hanlon added a point for the winners. Brian Buckley pointed a Dromina free.

Kilshannig piled on the pressure with Eoghan Burke very effective at centre back. They had five points in quick succession by Kevin O’Flynn (2) Kieran Twomey (2) and Jack Kearney as they moved 0-13 to 0-4 clear. Kilshannig had their first goal in the 23rd minute when impressive Killian O’Hanlon worked well for Kevin O’Flynn who netted 1-13 to 0-4. By half time Kilshannig led 1-15 to 0-5.

Dromina with the aid of the breeze were expected to mount a big challenge on the restart. Instead it was the Glantane side who maintained their dominance. Both sides swapped two points each by the 43rd minute as the rain fell heavy.

Jack Kearney goaled in the 47th minute and Kilshannig were 2-17 to 0-7 clear. Kearney and Killian O’Hanlon completed the winners tally while David Jones (free) and Ger Hayes had a point each for Dromina.

Kilshannig now meet Harbour Rovers in the quarter-final this week end.
