Laochra Óg Under 14s take victory in extra-time thriller

-

On Saturday, August 24, Laochra Óg’s U8 girls hosted their blitz in Colaiste Ghobnatan, with Inniscarra, Ballinora and Eire Óg in attendance. A very good morning of camogie was on display and great comaraderie was shown amongst all teams. Thanks to our referees Liam and Emma, to the parents for their support and help which made the blitz run very smoothly. A special mention to their three goalies who played really well under pressure.

On Sunday, August 25, Laochra Óg U10’s played a match on Thursday against Millstreet in Millstreet. They played three very competitive 20 minute games, 12-a-side. They all played very well with a good few lads getting on the scoresheet and ran out winners 5-11 to 5-5.

Well done to the Laochra Óg U14 Hurlers who put on an epic display of hurling and pure determination against a very evenly matched St Patricks team, in Kealkil, in their championship semi-final. Laochra Óg were ahead at half-time and by full-time St. Patricks had pulled it back to a draw. Laochra Óg eventually won by a single point, 5-9 to 4-11 at the end of extra-time.

Meanwhile, the U12 boys played two games in a week – the first one against Cloughduv as the fast ground hurling by the opposition saw the Laochra Óg lads struggle at the start but fought back into the match. They also took on St Patrick’s East Kerry in Teerbeg with the Cork / Kerry rivalry coming to the fore in this end to end battle with the fading light finally bringing this match to an end.
